Expert Profile
I have been working as an independent expert witness since 2005, and have completed in excess of 230 reports for use in litigation. I have extensive experience of attending experts’ meetings and case conferences, and completing all the other follow-up duties associated with working as an expert witness. I have attended Bond Solon Courtroom Familiarisation Days. In 2018 I attended trial at the Royal Courts of Justice for a case on which I was the instructed care expert. I completed further discussions with the defendant care expert in order to assist with settling quantum issues on the case.
Since August 2018 I have been employed as a senior community occupational therapist, funded by the local authority, working across the county providing assessments and treatments for complex clients, including children and adults. This has given me the opportunity to work with 6 different localities, as well as overseeing a team of 4 therapists.
From 2015 to 2018 I worked as an independent occupational therapist. I was registered with locum agencies and provided short term roles as a senior occupational therapist within the community and hospital settings. Within these roles I was able to practice in a wide range of clinical settings, treating a diverse client group, including those with orthopaedic, surgical, medical and neurological conditions. I have been involved in the planning of rehabilitation programmes for clients, including equipment, adaptations and recommending appropriate packages of care within the home.
Between 2006 and 2015 I practised as a Senior Community Occupational Therapist, managing a clinical caseload of adult clients with a range of complex health, social and housing needs within their home environment and community setting. My role involved assessment, analysis and implementation of care plans, taking into account individuals’ multi-factorial acute and/or chronic physical needs, and working with their carers when applicable.
Since qualifying in 1991 I have acquired extensive experience within the NHS and private sector in a variety of roles. My previous posts have included that of Intermediate Care Senior Occupational Therapist (2001-2006) which involved planning discharge packages of care from hospital and rehabilitation as well as equipment provision for a range of orthopaedic, neurological and medical client groups. From 1997 to 2001 I was Head Occupational Therapist, managing a department based in a 350 bed acute hospital. I also carried a clinical caseload of elective orthopaedic clients. I have worked within the private sector providing assessment, treatment and discharge planning within the community and private hospital settings.
Between 1994 and 1997 I worked as a senior occupational therapist within the speciality of trauma and orthopaedics, including elective and trauma related surgery as well as gaining experience in hand therapy. Prior to this I gained experience in surgery, general medicine and care of the elderly.
I am an active member of and have given presentations for the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Conference and Specialist Section Trauma and Orthopaedics, as well as for local training purposes. During the course of my work I have taken an interest in Health and Safety, including infection control.
I am well organised, motivated and self-driven, committed to professional development within my chosen field. I have clinical and managerial experience in a variety of areas having developed a special interest in trauma and orthopaedics.
