Specific Injuries Experience
Philippa works as both a Case Manager and Neurological Occupational Therapist with teenagers and adults with brain injuries and neurological disabilities, including strokes. She assesses the client’s needs following their disability and provides individualised rehabilitation plans to meet their specific goals. Philippa works with clients in a holistic manner treating their physical, cognitive, social and emotional needs. She is able to recommend appropriate equipment to enable them to reach their potential for independence.
In her role as a Case Manager, Philippa works with adults and children with neurological impairments. The vast majority of Philippa’s clients have ongoing care needs, and Philippa manages a number of care teams and works closely with the multi-disciplinary team, schools and families to ensure her client’s needs are met.
Clients who Philippa works with who have a brain injury often have additional complications such as visual difficulties, orthopaedic injuries, and medical needs such as catheters and PEG feeds which require ongoing management in the community which Philippa co-ordinates.
Employment Profile
Philippa has worked as an independent Expert Witness since 2007, providing recommendations on claimants’ care, equipment and other needs. She has written numerous reports and is experienced in case conferences and expert meetings.
Since 2001 Philippa has worked as a specialist Neurological Occupational Therapist, covering a variety of neurological conditions such as brain injury, stroke and MS. Identifying the functional implications of the client’s injury on their life and vocation, Philippa then works with the individual and family and carers to support and educate them and help maximise their independence.
Philippa became a Brain Injury Case Manager in 2010, assessing and ensuring the ongoing needs of clients are met, including setting up and managing complex care packages.
Her roles have focused on completing detailed assessments of neurologically impaired clients’ needs and implementing specific, detailed programmes to develop their skills to improve their independence and reintegration into the community. Philippa has provided extensive recommendations regarding future care needs and specialist equipment.
She has worked with a variety of conditions including orthopaedics, neurological and mental health in both hospital and community settings, in Great Britain and South Africa. Philippa worked for the NHS from 1999 to 2013, and moved into the private sector, practicing independently since 2005.
Philippa is highly motivated and enjoys the challenge of assessing and highlighting the needs of this complex client group. She is able to succinctly highlight relevant points and justify recommendations. Working in independent practice ensures she is highly organised and works well under pressure.
