Specific Injuries Experience
Since 2000, Anita has specialised in working with teenagers and adults who have sustained a brain injury. This includes those resulting from strokes, haemorrhage, anoxic injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and brain injuries relating to birth.
Her work has focused on this brain injury client group and has encompassed many areas of experience, including; hands-on therapy, overseeing therapy programmes, running group workshops covering vocational skills, and setting up bespoke packages of support within a residential unit and in the community.
Anita has set up numerous care and therapy teams around people with a brain injury since 2001, either employing direct or procuring through an agency provider. She has a sound knowledge of the positives and pitfalls of both approaches and experience of managing support teams. She has developed a reasoning tool for case managers to use when making decisions with their clients about which route is best for their support provision.
She has a wealth of experience of working in brain injury and the many facets of a person’s life. She has organised and planned holidays, undertaken complex risk assessments, supported applications for benefits and statutory funding, identified properties and equipment, supported people to remain in or to gain employment and to identify new activities and ways of living following life changing injury. She routinely works with multi-disciplinary teams and deputies to ensure that needs are met, while remaining aware of budgetary constraints.
She has a particular interest in working with people who have so called ‘hidden injuries’, and has experience in working with people with mild to very severe brain injury.
Employment Profile
Anita has worked with many individuals and their families following brain injury. Having worked across several roles, spanning 20 years, Anita has procured significant insight into the difficulties which can be experienced long after formal rehabilitation and litigation have concluded.
Anita has been passionate about complex case management since 2005 and she has worked with a wide variety of individuals, all with different circumstances, strengths and needs. Anita provides training for support workers, case managers and legal professionals. In her current role with West Country Case Management she oversees the mentoring support for case managers, as well as being responsible for ensuring the documents, processes and information used by case managers are up to date and fit for purpose.
Anita is a director of BABICM, having spent 2 years on the training and events group (TEG), sitting on council since 2017 and working on the professional practise and membership group (PPMG). She gained her advanced BABICM Membership in 2010.
